The majority of people think that the most famous carnival in Italy is the Venize Carnival, but is this right? NO!! Another carnival called ‘The Viareggio Carnival’ is far more well known.
The Viareggio Carnival began in 1873 first originating from a “signori” who decided to organize a little bespoke Sunday carnival involving a number of local citizens wearing masks and a procession of beautifully decorated floats adorned with flowers as a sign of protest for being forced to pay too much tax. Since these days, Viareggio has become the home of the Italian Carnival with its masked parades, celebrated in the south coast!
